Drug-related deaths have more than doubled since 2000. There are more deaths, illness, and disabilities from substance use than from any other preventable health condition. Today, one in four deaths is attributable to alcohol, tobacco, and illicit or prescription drug use. How does Addiction infiltrate into our lives? As healthcare professionals, how can we approach Addiction among our communities, our patients and ourselves.
This presentation will address the following topics with Evidence and Best Practice from:  American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)

Eric S. Lott, MD:

Dr. Lott is the Associate Medical Director of the Arizona Physician’s Health Program and underwent Internal Medicine training at Maricopa Medical Center and Mayo Clinic in Phoenix AZ.   His compassion and energy to address substance use disorders was recognized when he was accepted into the Addiction Medicine Fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical.
Dr. Lott was invited to work with the Physician Health Program of Massachusetts during Fellowship. He has become a leading thought innovator in Addiction Medicine thanks to his training among many distinguished mentors at Harvard.  He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and specialty trained in Addiction Medicine.  He graduated from Massachusetts General/Harvard in July of 2019 and now currently works as a board eligible Addiction Medicine Specialist with Community Bridges Inc.  
 
Dr. Lott is an attending faculty member with the Honor Health Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program.   Dr. Lott is passionate about the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions associated with substance use disorders. He has a primary focus on implementing evidenced based addiction care and addressing the perception of stigma among substance use within the public, media and other institutions. He also advocates for improved healthcare treatment models for substance use disorders as a chronic disease process.
Dr. Lott is skilled at assessing healthcare professionals with substance use disorders. As the Associate Medical Director of Arizona Physician’s Health Program, he promotes health and wellness among the healthcare professional community. He is a member of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs.
